Viral Infection

So this was a fun week. Woke up Monday morning with a small blister on my tongue. Read about tongue blisters on the Internet decided it was either an allergic reaction or vitamin B (complex) shortage. The latter because i had been so busy with work the previous 2 weeks i had only been making meal-salads for myself. These don't contain much meat, if any, which is my main source for vitamin B (complex).

Anyway so fix the annoying tongue i decided to shop, cook and eat a big dinner of mainly meat. So i made a great Monday evening dinner. Next day blister was twice the size and i had 39c fever… wtf?

i went to work anyway, trooper that i am :P did my job, ran home at 17.00 and promptly passed out for an hour or so on the sofa. Woke up to Blaze's tongue in my ear, he cares. The following days where pretty much filled with fever pain and forced fasting due to dysfunctional mouth (read: hurt so much i couldn't eat).

Friday i put aside my trooper (stubbornness) and went to the doc who told me it was a viral throat infection that spread to the mouth. Some kind of flu that got out of hand for some reason i guess. He said my body was doing great, even if i felt like shit, it was already healing, it just needed a little more time. Not being able to eat was, of course, a problem and would slow the healing. He prescribed me some crazy painkiller and told me to return next week. I zombi'd off home drawing all kinds of looks as i sat in the bus probably looking something like Wikus van de Merwe 48 hours after infection :D. Made the painkiller, it was a powder i had to mix with water that went all fizzy, tasted like oranges. After that its a bit hazy, i went to bed and slept for 8 hours i think, just woke up.

Quick check of mail, note to blog and then some quality sofa-time and home cinema. Also more orange fizzy stuff and i should try to eat some soup.

Sunday, Woke up with more pain than ever. Even the new painkillers didn't help so went to the hospital. Got some kind of morphine and this really cool gel that i rinse with that numbs my entire mouth. Only lasts 15 minutes but gods does that feel good. Managed to get some food down while it lasted.  The hospital painkillers really kick it, passed out on the sofa.

Monday, pain is a little less. took more painkillers, sleep. Found something i can "eat" with reasonable ease. So called "drink-breakfast". Its a milk, fruit and fiber mix, very liquidy and kind of filling. Nice too.
My moods are getting really bad. I am annoyed at the slightest of things.

Tuesday, woke up last night with terrible abdominal pains, i guess the painkillers are taking their toll on my digestive tract. Tried to not take painkillers this morning but was unbearable. No more Brufen anyway, that one is very bad for you. Sticking to the paracetamols. It hurts. My lip has gone all wyrd and white. my jaw is really stiff and i look like hell. I think the pain is less again though. I am just so fed up with it. Going to try and do some work today. Need to get something done, falling behind and i hate it.

Wednesday. feeling much better. Went to specialist appointment at the hospital, the blisters are "Erythema  Multiforme". Apparently  some kind of allergic reaction to a virus. In my case a Flu virus that i got last week. It can make blisters and wounds in the mouth, on the eyes or all over the body. I had the mouth variation. If it happens again i can mention the name of it and get something to help right away, and yes it can happen again. If i get a similar flu virus i could have the same reaction to it in the future :( Enough about it for now tho. Its recovering quickly and soon i will be able to eat normaly again… spare-ribs, sushi and pizza here i come :D
