Google - friend or foe?

Lately iv been having some concerns about google. Many ppl are using it for all kinds of things but lets stop to think a moment.

What does google (in the maximum case scenario) know about you?

your emails (gmail)
your contacts (gmail)
your search records (search)
your browsing activity (googlebar)
your appointments and meetings (calender)
medical history
any mention of you in books/magazines/news/websites/etc.
and presumably quite a lot more should they want to find it

Did you know:
google places a cookie on your system that won't expire until 2038. That cookie lets Google track what you searched for, when you conducted the search, and which results you clicked. The cookie doesn't identify you by name, but it does identify you by your system's information and IP address.

All this is a little freaky if you ask me.. sure google has a great image, but they are a COMPANY in the end, not a non-profit organisation. In the end they are in the game to make money and please their stockholders and where do they draw the line? i mean they already sniff through your email to provide advertising matched to keywords in your mail… sure a machine does it, but in the end google has access to this data.

Whenever i mention this to ppl (in holland) the usualy (typical dutch) responce is something along the lines of "well i dont do anything illegal so iv got nothing to fear"… yea because we all know innocent people never get bothered by the police :D also mmm what about that 40 gb mp3 collection you got there mate?

It could just be over the top paranoid, gods know im partial to that :P but still.. i only use google for searching and SEO at the moment, a gmail account is not for me i fear.
