This may be my final entry as it could be that today is the end of the world.
Fun times!
But seriously. CERN in switserland are going to be switching on their Large Hadron Collider today. Essentially an machine to recreate the big bang. They mention that small black wholes could be created and.. uuh.. hold on a minute.. BLACK HOLES? Yup… those holes in space that nothing can escape ^_- …. yup they be making those in our back garden.
Some interesting quotes:
Professor Rössler claims that, in the worst case scenario, the earth could be sucked inside out within four years of a mini black hole forming
The result will, for a split second, replicate the conditions that existed in the moments immediately after the birth of the universe, known as the Big Bang. In a space a billion times smaller than a speck of dust, the collisions will create temperatures 100,000 times hotter than the centre of the sun.
a safety report published earlier this year by experts at CERN and reviewed by a group of external scientists gave the Large Hadron Collider the all clear. It concluded that there was little theoretical chance of the collider producing mini black holes that would be capable of posing a danger to the earth.
So they are saying that yes black holes will be created but they wont damage the earth. Sounds a little like "Well i took a puff but i did not inhale" if you ask me. Maybe an end of the world "woops" is only around the corner ^^
Also interesting, if somewhat floaty, is this video about what someone believes to be nostradamus's view on the CERN experiment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uctj7JAwghA
